Project Profiles

ROOFTECH has completed well over 3,000 projects on some of the most difficult roofing and renovation projects in the country, since being founded in 1983. ROOFTECH has a long track record of solving complicated roofing and waterproofing problems and implementing solutions to those problems, as well as consulting on large complicated new construction projects. Below are a few examples of our projects.

American Airlines Maintenance Base, Haslet, Texas

ROOFTECH performed the roof design, inspection, and testing for the 12 buildings and more than 2 million square feet of roofing, including the Wide Body Hanger, which is the largest single cantilevered hangar structure of its kind in the world.

Atlantis Hotel, Nassau and Paradise Island, Bahamas

ROOFTECH performed evaluation and testing services involving hurricane damage. We worked with the owner, architect, and insurance company in resolving the loss, and performed consulting, inspection, and testing services on the repair and replacement of the roofs further complicated by another hurricane during the installation of the roof.

Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas

The Kimbell was designed by Gold Medal award winning architect, Louis Kahn. It is a world renowned masterpiece, winning the 25 year Award from AIA. ROOFTECH performed design, inspection, and testing services on the replacement of the roofs to solve the long-term roofing problems that has plagued the building while maintaining the architectural integrity of the building.

Tarrant County Courthouse, Fort Worth, Texas

The courthouse was built in 1895 on the bluff of the Trinity River where the original military outpost was located. ROOFTECH has performed consulting services for the repair and maintenance of this roof for 25 years. We have recently performed consulting and inspection services for the replacement of the copper-clad clock tower on this historic centerpiece of Fort Worth culture.

Corpus Christi Main Post Office, Corpus Christi, Texas

ROOFTECH performed extensive wind uplift and moisture testing services on the roof system and evaluated the structural capacity after the building sustained significant tornado damage. We provided design, bidding, and construction administration services for the replacement of the roofs and reattachment of the structure during on-going postal operations.

Marriott Hotel, San Juan, Puerto Rico

ROOFTECH performed design, consulting, testing, and inspection services for the roofing and waterproofing issues during the renovation of this historic hotel (the once abandoned Dupont Plaza).

        Lincoln Center, Dallas, Texas

ROOFTECH performed evaluation and testing services involving a major wind loss on the 4 buildings in this complex. The building experienced straight line winds that lifted the roof system off of the deck and caused a catastrophic failure. We provided design, inspection, and testing services in the replacement of the roofs on this large prestigious complex in North Dallas.

        Exxon World Headquarters, Irving, Texas

ROOFTECH performed the roof design, inspection, and testing for the roof system for HOK Architects. This is one of the largest slate roofs in the United States. The biggest obstacle in design was to provide proper expansion and contraction for the slate. The proper design of the attachment of the Welch slate to the deck was critical.

        American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

ROOFTECH performed the roof design, inspection, and testing for the roof system for HKS Architects. There were very complex roofing and waterproofing issues involved in this building. One of the critical design issues on this domed roof structure was the membrane type and attachment. There were numerous roof gardens and plaza decks on this project as well.

International Terminal D, DFW Airport, Texas

Terminal D is a 2,000,000 sq ft facility capable of handling 32,000 passengers daily. ROOFTECH performed consulting services related to the design and construction of this extremely complex metal roof for Austin Commercial who served as the CM at Risk. The solution utilized elements of roofing, waterproofing, and curtain-wall design. We also had to coordinate with 3 architectural firms during the process.

Modern Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas

The Modern is a 53,000 sq ft facility designed by Gold Medal award winning architect, Tadao Ando. It is recognized for its stunning water features, reflecting pools, and cantilevered roof. ROOFTECH performed consulting services for KHA related to the design and construction of the roof system. The roof line is one of the important design elements of this building. One of our main challenges was to design the edge detail to meet the aesthetic goals while maintaining waterproofing integrity.

One Shell Square, New Orleans, Louisiana

ROOFTECH performed emergency evaluation services, design, and inspections on these roofs. They sustained significant damage in August 2005 from Hurricane Katrina. Being the tallest building in Louisiana at just less than 700 feet and its location on the coast in a hurricane prone region subjects the roof to significant wind uplift pressures. The roof design had to sustain the wind uplift pressures while maintaining a “zero” edge metal profile at the perimeter of the roofs.

Flight Simulator Building, American Airlines, Fort Worth, Texas

ROOFTECH performed the roof design, inspection, and testing for the replacement of the roofs on this building. The rooftop units supported the computerized flight training equipment that had to operate 24/7 during construction. The units were located in a recessed “pit” which had improper drainage. Our solution solved the drainage/roofing issues while providing a better aesthetic solution.  We covered these areas with standing seam metal roofs while providing ventilation for the units.

Columbia Border Station, Laredo, Texas

ROOFTECH performed design, inspection, and testing services on this border station complex which included the main border station and 10 auxiliary buildings. The project included the replacement of complex barrel vault, standing seam metal roofs, built-up roofs, and mechanical penthouses with a long history of performance issues. The $1,785,000 budget was met and there were no change orders on this project.

First Baptist Church, Albuquerque, New Mexico

ROOFTECH performed evaluation and testing services involving a major fire loss and provided structural and roof design, inspection, and testing services in the replacement of the roofs and repair of the damaged structures.

El Castillo Retirement Center, Santa Fe, New Mexico

ROOFTECH performed evaluation and testing services involving significant design and construction problems involving the structure and waterproofing of the parking garage. We then performed consulting and inspection services related to the repair of the structure and the replacement of the waterproofing system.

Baylor Medical Center, Irving, Texas

ROOFTECH performed the design of a complicated, high-performance roofing system for Building 6 of this complex (65,000 sq. ft.). Code-related issues were addressed such as wind uplift, R-Value requirements, drainage capacity, and the overflow system. Through a series of value engineering efforts with the roofing contractor, we were able to reduce project cost to meet the limited budget while maintaining the quality level and warranty requirements.

University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, Texas

ROOFTECH performed a Plan and Specification Review (Peer Review) of the roof design for this new construction project for the building contractor in order to address roofing-related issues prior to construction. ROOFTECH provided technical support to the contractors during construction in order to resolve other issues as they developed. Field observations were provided to ensure that the installation of the roofing system met the project requirements.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, Fort Worth, Texas

ROOFTECH performed design, bidding/negotiation, and construction administration services for the roof replacement of the Technology Office Building. A limited budget, energy savings goals, and inadequate overflow systems drove the solutions for this project. We were able to reduce costs by leaving the existing roofing in place while still obtaining a 20 year NDL warranty. All of the work had to be constructed while maintaining the operation of the 210,000 square foot facility.

Northwest Independent School District, Justin, Texas

ROOFTECH performed investigation, design, bidding/negotiation, and construction administration for the reroofing of this school. This project included the retrofit of 200,000 sq. ft. of roofing. The 25 year-old roofs were trapezoidal metal panels installed over open purlins which had been leaking for the last 15 years. Our design included installing insulation between the existing panel ribs to meet energy codes and installing a fully adhered fleece-back 80 mil PVC roof system with ribs.

North Park Center – Phase 1 (Shopping Mall), Dallas, Texas

ROOFTECH performed design, bidding/negotiation, and construction administration for the reroofing of a portion of this popular shopping mall. The project included the replacement of 84,400 sq. ft. of roofing on 11 different roof areas. The mall was built in 1979, and the roofs were designed with limited slope because they had a gravel covered, coal tar pitch roofing system. The system had no provisions for overflow, thus the roofs had never met code requirements for drainage which we corrected.

Triumph Aerostructures (Vought Aircraft), Grand Prairie, Texas

ROOFTECH performed investigation, design, and construction administration for the roofs on 6 buildings, comprising 449,500 square feet. The 6 buildings were split into 3 packages with different contractors. Some of these buildings had “critical” contents that could be damaged by something as small as dust; therefore interior protection was a major factor on all buildings. New roofing systems ranged from retrofits with a 60 mil fully-adhered TPO to replacement with multi-ply modified bitumen roofs.

Richardson Independent School District, Richardson, Texas

ROOFTECH has performed testing, investigation, design, bidding/negotiation, construction administration since 1998 for RISD. ROOFTECH developed a 5-year plan to manage their roofing assets which included 2,235,963 sq. ft. of roofing. The District uses this plan to define the scope of work for their Bond Programs. We also developed RISD roofing standards for their architect to use on new construction projects. ROOFTECH has provided services on over 60 schools and/or buildings.

DFW International Airport, DFW Airport, Texas

ROOFTECH was awarded a 5-year Indefinite Delivery contract for roofing and waterproofing consulting with the DFW Airport Board. The airport covers 26.9 square miles with 17,207 acres of real property. We performed a Biannual Survey and Update of the 5-Year Roofing and Waterproofing Plan on 813 roof areas and all walls of the buildings. We have provided design, bidding/negotiation, construction administration, and quality control services on 25 buildings at the airport.
